Oh the joys of entering any public place with a very conversation-wise toddler.

Aubrey Ann loves the movie, “Cinderella” and has seen it a couple of times. She loves to recap the movie a couple times per day. One of her favorite things to tell me is about the stepmother, and how she “isn’t very nice to Cinderella”.

Well, today we were in Target, in the bathroom, and there were only a couple of ladies in there besides us. Well, lo and behold one of the ladies walks out of the bathroom, and looks exactly like the wicked step-mother. She had dark black hair, with lots of gray, all pinned back. Well, I wasn’t the only one who noticed, AA did too. She promptly started calling out, “Step-muuuuthhhaaaa” “Step-muuuuthhhaaa”. I knew where this was going and immediately tried to “shush” her. This never seems to slow AA down.

So then it comes, the finger pointed straight at the lady and her sweet little toddler lips opened up and said, “She’s not very nice! She’s not very nice!”

Sigh.

My first thought was to explain things to the lady, telling her all about AA’s obsession with Cinderella, but then I realized, what am I suppose to do, tell her she looks like the wicked step-mother? Yeah, that wasn’t going to go over well.

So instead, I decided to pray that the ‘wicked step-mother’ wasn’t fluent in toddler, and that she didn’t understand what AA had said.

Needless to say, some explaining took place. I let AA know that the wicked-stepmother was just pretend, and that some people can look alike, but that doesn’t mean they are the same people.

I think I may just need to stay inside until AA is 5….or 15.
