Month two….and the fun begins!

Posted by Mari Jo

Princess Peanut,

We just ended your second month here with Mommy and Daddy. Time is going WAY too fast! :( It seems like just yesterday you were in my tummy, kicking up a storm!

This month, things have started getting REALLY FUN! We had your first smile at six weeks. What a feeling that was. My stomach did flips like I was on a roller coaster.

Smiling on Changing TableYou loved when I would touch your tummy, chest, then mouth while making a “boop” sound.

Happy TimeI was so fortunate to be the first one to get a big gummy grin.

Once you started smiling, it never stopped. Your happiest moments were in the morning when you first got up. After you were fed, you were just so happy. Daddy and I would sit with you laying on our knees and basically do anything and everything to get a smile out of you!

Bath Time! You started liking your bath time. Well, I guess ‘like’ isn’t really the word, more like ‘tolerate’. You sit their sort of grumpy just staring at us as if to say, “I am wet, cold, and not very happy about it!” However, no tears while you are in your bath.

You have really started to explore the world around you. You love to be in your floor gym (or your rainforest!), you think your swing is OK, your pink chair is acceptable as long as the hanging lady bugs are staring at you.

Pink ChairI catch you making “friends” with lots of the things around you. You watch things and smile at them. Sometimes you even carry on silly baby conversations with toys. You love talking to the lady bugs in your pink chair!

Basically, you and I spend most of our day hanging out, moving from toy to toy. Sometimes I like to turn on the music and dance with you.

In Mommies CarrierSometimes I strap you into a little carrier on my chest so you can be right with me as I do things around the house.

Basically, we do everything together. Outside of Daddy, you are my absolute best friend in the whole world.

During this month we bought a van, so I got to get out and about with you. You are not a huge fan of long car rides, or sitting in your car seatSleping in Carseat, but you do like getting out and seeing new people and places. Everyone we see always comments on how beautiful you are. From your eyelashes, all the way down to your little tootsies, even strangers want to snuggle you!

Well, you accomplished many things this month. Week six was your first genuine smile. And week 7 was the first time you slept all the way through the night. We got you this blanket called, “The Miracle Blanket” AKA the baby straight jacket! Basically, it swaddled you so snuggly you would sleep all the way until morning. That is…..unless……my baby houdini escaped from the straight jacket during the night.

You would go to bet at around 9pm and sleep until around 6am. I thought that was GREAT. Until, one night, you decided to protest the swaddling blanket. Well, there was only one thing to do. We put you on your tummy to sleep. That night you slept until 8 am in the morning. I woke up TERRIFIED. I must have checked on you 25 times in your sleep, and I was still scared when I woke up and the clock said 8 am. So basically, you started sleeping on your tummy for about 12 hours every night. Unless…that is….my little Mover Mcmoverton moved her way all the way to the top of the crib and was bumping her head against the top bumper pads. Silly girl!

Also, it was during this month that your Mommy (aka the biggest dork in the world) decided that she started having to match you. So, most of the time when we are out and about we are dressed in the same color scheme. And just recently, I have gotten Daddy in on the act as well.

Oh yes, your new favorite thing is to sit up like a big girl. You have to sit on our laps facing outwards. It is so cute when we are in restaurants because you have to sit facing outwards up to the table. Adorable.

I think your cheeks must be sore, because I spend so much time kissing them. You have the most kissable face I have ever seen. You love when Mommy kisses you on your nose. You just smile!

Finger SuckingAlso, this month you started sucking your thumb and pointer finger on each hand. It is so cute, and of course you have to make little piggy noises while sucking them too!

Well lovebug, Daddy and I are tired and off to bed. I can’t wait to see what month number three has in store for us!

Our first month….

Posted by Mari Jo

Dearest Aubrey Ann,

The true purpose of this website is to give you a place to look someday to see what life was like as you were growing up. So I plan to write you a letter each month to give you a glimpse of all the growing you did each month of your life….so here goes!

Your first few days at home you were SO sleepy. I worried constantly that you were sleeping too much. But, after about two weeks, you decided to WAKE UP! This is really when we started seeing your beautiful blue eyes. Dad and I would just stare at you for hours.

You wanted to be held constantly, so you were always in our arms. You especially didn’t want to be away from us when you were sleeping.

Sleepy babySo, sometimes you slept with us, other times we could get you to sleep in your bassinet, but only if you were tightly swaddled, propped on your side, and surrounded with two rolled blankets so you felt like you were being held.

Once you started bottle feeding, the search was on to find the perfect bottle for you. Everytime you sucked you sounded like a little piggy! You would squeak and grunt! After about 6 different types of bottles we finally found one that you didn’t squeak with.

Feeding Time We bought a ton of Dr. Brown’s bottles, which happen to be the most expensive bottles you can buy. Bet you didn’t know you had such expensive taste at such a young age, eh? Good girl!!

Well, you spent most of your first three to four weeks crying, and unfortunately, so did Mommy. You would cry, I would cry, Daddy would….well just be exhausted :). We really put him to work!

Most of our days were spent cuddling, singing, talking, and of course, feeding. You loved to take your time when you ate. It would take you 45 min to an hour to finish eating which isn’t too bad if you are eating 3 to 4 times a day. However, you ate 8 times per day. But, that was ok by me, because it was time I could take to just look at you.

You slept in 3 hour spurts during the day, and during the night we sometimes had a couple of four hour stretches. Daddy and I would often just sit and stare at you while you were sleeping.

Sleeping, hands outYou looked so peaceful, until something would startle you and your little arms would come flying up and hit you in the face. So sad :(….
Bath Time One thing you absolutely HATED was bath time. You would cry every time you got wet. So, we just rushed through it, and as soon as we got you all wrapped up and dry, you were a happy camper again.

You also hated diaper changes, being dressed and undressed, and being put down. Basically, anything that required you to be placed on your back was not OK with you! You were a girl who knew what you wanted right from the start! When I would wonder why you were crying Daddy would always tell me, “She is very particular, she know what she wants and she is going to get it!” Whoa, was he ever right?
Furry Back You were so tiny, and furry! You had all of this little baby hair on your back and arms! Also, your beautiful black hair started to fall out and gave you little bald spots! It was so sad to see all of your little baby hairs on your sheet each morning.

Although the first month was very tiring, I will never forget how it felt to hold your little body in my arms. This month was full of a lot of your first. The most important being, the love daddy and I felt at the first sight of you.

I love you my, Lovebug, Peanut, Sister Laroo, Aubwey Ann, Pee pee pants girl, punky, punky-doodle (you’ve heard them all!).

Love always and forever,

Mommy
